Specialty and Private Lesson Coach

i9 Youth Coach

Rob Keeney grew up in Baltimore, MD. He attended Northern High School (Baltimore) and graduated from Furman University (Greenville, SC) with a BS in Biology in 1977. Along with other sports, Rob particularly enjoyed playing intramural volleyball at Furman.

After graduation, Rob began a long career in the foodservice distribution industry as a direct sales representative for PYA/Monarch in the Atlanta area. He held a variety of sales and management positions in that company. In 2003 Rob took an opportunity to build and implement a new sales and leadership training program for Frosty Acres Brands (Alpharetta, GA). Eventually, that led to a chance to work for himself as a sales and leadership development consultant in 2015. He now runs his own consulting company, Grafton TDS, Inc. and works with independent distributors to train and develop their sales and leadership talent.

As an adult, Rob took up volleyball as a serious competitive sport in the 1980s. He played on a variety of men's teams in the USAV Southern Region. The annual Hi-Neighbor tournament held in Asheville, NC was always a favorite event. Rob also enjoyed officiating volleyball and earned his Regional Referee certification, which he maintained for many years.

In 2001, Rob's younger son, Stephen developed an interest in playing boys volleyball. At the time, the only local boys program was Southern Storm Boys Volleyball Club. Stephen competed with Southern Storm until he graduated from high school in 2007, then went on to compete on the men's volleyball team at Emmanuel College (Boston, MA). For Rob, it was a joy and a privilege to be able to coach Stephen and the other boys in the club. Their squad won the Hi-Neighbor tournament outright in March, 2007 competing against men's teams. Another highlight was winning the Bronze bracket at the 2007 USAV Boys National Championship (Atlanta, GA). Rob continued coaching boys at Southern Storm until he came to Atlanta Extreme in 2015 to help them build their own boys program and was the Boys Program Director for several years.

Rob and his wife, Barbara have been married for 42 years. They have two grown sons and two grandsons who they don't get to see nearly enough as they live in Massachusetts.
